Have you heard of spotted lanternflies? In 2014 the invasive species native to Asia was found in Pennsylvania. Over the last few years they have spread west into Ohio and Indiana. Soon the may appear in Chicago.
During the fall these bugs lay from 30-50 eggs each. Without action these insects can take over areas.
Spotted lanternflies cause damage to the plants around them. They also produce a substance that causes black sooty mold.
Adult spotted lanternflies are about 1" long and 1/2" wide. The top wing is a grey tone with black spots and the hind wings have a vibrant red color with black dots.
